The Kayenta Loop Overview

The Kayenta Loop is a 25-mile route from Kova’s location, through Snow Canyon and the city of Ivins, and into one of the most unique and scenic communities in Southern Utah.

The majority of the route will see you riding on paved paths, switching inside the Kayenta community to relaxed riding on the neighborhood roads, which are generally very quiet and peaceful. On the way back, you’ll switch from riding on paved paths to more busy street sections with dedicated bike lanes.

Because of the length of this route, riders should be aware of their battery usage and budget their battery life for the return ride back up through Snow Canyon. Also, due to the length and the sections of more busy street riding, we generally don’t recommend riding this route with small children.

What to Expect

The loop through the Kayenta community is relaxed and peaceful, with riders surrounded by beautiful homes and the various cliffs and canyons of the surrounding countryside.

One unique feature of the Kayenta community is their art scene, which finds a home in various studios and spaces that make up the Kayenta Art Village complex toward the end of the loop. Stop in and see what the local art culture has on display, and even stop and eat at Xetava Gardens Cafe!

When to Go

Due to a general lack of shade, the Lava Flow trail is best tackled in the morning or evening and with regular application of sunscreen.

Park Entry Fees

If you plan your route through Snow Canyon State Park, there is a cost to enter.

What to Pack

The Kayenta loop is not a high-intensity outdoor adventure, but more of a leisurely and scenic ride through a relaxed community. That said, riders should come prepared with:

  • Helmet
  • Water
  • Sunscreen
  • Layers of clothing
  • Cell phone

Directions to the Kayenta Loop

From our location: Riders should follow the map below, crossing the highway via the overpass and taking the paved bike path north to the entrance of Snow Canyon. Inside Snow Canyon, you’ll ride down the main road until the Whiptail Trail diverges, following this bike trail south to exit the canyon, taking the trail west along Snow Canyon Parkway. Continue until you reach 400 W, at which point you will begin the loop portion and enter Kayenta.

After a few blocks, the bike path will lead riders to cross the street, continuing on further for a section until riders will continue their ride on the main neighborhood road.

Turn north on Wintook Dr and continue through the community until the street ends at Cochise Dr. Turn south here and continue south (left) at the intersection with Kayenta Dr. This street will continue all the way to the Kayenta Art Village complex, at which point riders will turn east (left) onto Kwavasa Dr. Kwavasa will lead back to Center St, where riders can either ride back on the bike path or dedicated bike lane, continuing on back to Snow Canyon Dr, where they will return back up through Snow Canyon State Park.
