Riding an electric bike can be so much fun. You can enjoy the ease of an electric motor to help assist when pedaling while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. But, as they say, it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.

We definitely don’t want your fun to be ruined by an injury, so follow these ebike safety tips for the best possible experience.

1. Dress For Success

When it comes to electric bike safety, the most important thing you can do is wear a helmet. Helmets are critical in protecting you from head injuries, especially when you’re cruising at higher speeds than you would on a normal bike.

It’s also a good idea to wear bright, reflective clothing and closed-toe shoes to help you be as prepared as possible while biking.

2. Stay In Your Lane

Sidewalks are for pedestrians, and roads are for cars, so whenever possible, remain on designated bike lanes or bike paths to help you avoid collisions.

3. Watch Out for Rough Roads

Ebikes are tough, but they aren’t indestructible. When riding, avoid large bumps, potholes, and anything sharp that might pop your tires, such as broken glass. Also, avoid flooded or icy roads and biking in dangerous weather.

4. Be Aware of Traffic

Drivers have a responsibility to drive carefully around bikers, but they often don’t. Distracted or careless driving can make it extremely hazardous to bike around cars.

Follow all traffic laws and make sure to make eye contact with drivers before crossing their path. Always, always be on the lookout for cars and distracted drivers.

5. Watch Your Speed

With their electric motors, ebikes are heavier and faster than normal bikes. For both of these reasons, you’ll need to be careful with your speed to ensure that you don’t lose control. To avoid an accident, you’ll also need to brake sooner than you would on a normal bike because of your increased weight and speed.
